HISTORY | BENEFITS | REQUIREMENTS | QUESTIONARY | JOB SECTION | MAGAZINES Benefits of becoming an associate member   Access to general information of interest to hotels: current regulations, subsidies, suppliers' services, information about other organisations in the tourism sector, services of businesses involved in tourism, information about members: photos, services, maps of the three cities, dining, availability of accommodations (using the Hotel Association's website).    Information and consulting services by independent professionals (attorneys, labour and tax advisors).    Arrangements for Universal Mediterranea ticket sales in the hotels, with an end-of-season discount in proportion with sales volume.    Free publications, edited by the Hotel Association:   1.  Infoturist Costa Daurada: With a circulation of 200,000 copies, this magazine was born in 1996 with the goal of informing all of our visitors, mainly in the summer season, about the greatest possible number of activities taking place in our cities, as well as the possibility of finding alternatives to the sun and the beach, such as cultural, historical, artistic, popular and culinary activities, for example. Additionally, it includes maps of Salou, Cambrils, Vila-seca (with La Pineda) and the Tarragona province. It presents, therefore, a wealth of information about activities going on in the three cities, with additional general information about the Tarragona province, in particular the Costa Daurada. As of 2002, the Infoturist Costa Daurada is in its seventh edition. We have increased distribution points, including, in addition to the regular points, some campgrounds in Salou and Cambrils, tourist apartments of the Costa Daurada, various travel agencies, the Reus airport (the entry point of a greater and greater number of tourists), the Tourism Board of Reus and the Tourism Office of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, located on the Universal Mediterranea premises.   2.  Boletín informativo HOTELMAIL: Trimestral informational bulletin directed at managers and proprietors of hotels, which keeps them up-to-date on the activities of the Association and is intended to be an open forum for the suggestions and opinions of all members. The idea for the first trimestral bulletin came out toward the end of 1996, and as of 2002 nineteen issues have been published.   3.  Guía de hotels (Hotel Guide): This collection of information about the associated hotels of the cities of Salou, Cambrils, and Vila-seca (La Pineda), is directed at travel brokers (tour operators, wholesale agencies…) in order to make known what hotels and the Costa Daurada area in general have to offer in the way of services, routes, adventure sports, museums, etc. This guide is published in five languages: Catalan, Spanish, English, French and German. It is distributed at different Tourism Boards, at private establishments, and at national and international fairs.    Formative Action/continuing education, co-financed at the state level by FORCEM (Foundation for Continuing Education) and directed at the workers of associated hotels from all departments: MANAGEMENT, RECEPTION-ADMINISTRATION, KITCHEN, DINING ROOM, CAFETERIA and HOUSEKEEPING. Besides the FORCEM education plan, due to interest and growing educational needs, other courses aimed at workers at associated hotels have been organised. Among others we emphasise Safety and Health in the Restaurant Business, put on by the company Altimir. Seven editions of the course were held in the year 2000, with the participation of 17 companies and a total of 134 workers. In 2001, seven editions of Safety and Health in the Restaurant Business were held every month from April to October. Other educational action: · In November 1999 the Hotel Association organised an informative workshop on the prevention of workplace risks, with the collaboration of Reddis Union Mutual. · In April 2001, the Hotel Association organised, with the collaboration of Adecco, a formative session for hotel staff managers entitled Communication: Directing Meetings and Managing Work Teams. · In July 2001, the Hotel Association organised, with the collaboration of the company Hotel & Congress Security (HCS), an educational workshop entitled Management of Hotel Security. · In October 2001, the Hotel Association, through the Education Department of the Cambrils City Hall, requested approval by the Labour Department of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia for two training courses: INTERNET - E-MAIL and EXCEL 97 (fully subsidised by the Labour Department). · Educational courses are planned for February 2002 for kitchen staff and chefs, with the collaboration of ETT CREYF'S.   The Association is a member of ZONTUR (Hotel Group of Tourist Zones of Spain), through the AEH (Hotel Owners' Association), to defend issues that affect the sector.    Box of Products from Our Land: In 1997 the Box of Products from Our Land was designed (including a bottle of wine, a bottle of olive oil and a box of hazelnuts) to help our visitors get to know the typical products of our region.    Recognition of the Association as a Collaborating Centre of the Labour Department of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia. In 1999, the Hotel Association requested recognition as a Collaborating Centre of the Labour Department of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, in order to be able to provide occupational training which would allow us to train qualified personnel who could subsequently fill hotel jobs which are vacant due precisely to the lack of a specific qualification among applicants. In 2001, various occupational training courses were requested, of which one course was held. This course for housekeepers, with internships at businesses, was directed at women over 25 years of age. For 2002, courses for servers' assistants, entertainment teams and kitchen staff have been requested. With these courses we hope to fill vacant jobs at hotels in our area.    Other goals achieved Other goals have also been achieved: Agreement with the SGAE (General Society of Authors and Editors). Annual agreements with Universal Studios' Port Aventura regarding ticket sales, helping us become one of the top-selling entities. Collaboration agreement with ECA. Agreements with BARNAWORK, ADECCO, ECATEMP, CREYF'S and ALLBECON, temporary employment agencies, to provide hotels with necessary and sometimes difficult to find personnel. Important actions have been taken defend the interests of hotel businesses in some of the cities where the Association is established. Agreements with the Catalan offices of the Centre for Linguistic Normalisation of the Salou and Vila-seca City Halls to promote the presence and use of Catalan among the members of the Association. The local Catalan offices offer translation and revision services for short documents, linguistic problem-solving services and consulting. They also provide information about resources, bibliographical innovations, etc., which might be of interest to the Association and its members. Agreements with the companies PLANA and HISPANIA (February 2001 and March 2002) to increase transportation service and to provide means of transportation to hotel workers living in nearby communities. Agreement with the DIARI DE TARRAGONA, in April 2001, to publish an international edition of this newspaper which is distributed in all associated establishments. Collaboration agreement with the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Department and the Environment Department of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and also with the Territorial Union of Tarragona and the General Union of Workers of Catalonia (UGT), to promote correct environmental procedures in tourism establishments and educate and increase awareness among professionals in the sector (November 2002). Agreements with the company CALAMAR SALVAMENT in 2001 and 2002 to provide hotels with lifesaving and rescue personnel. Agreement with the Post Office, signed on 24 January 2002, to provide postal and telegraphic services to associated hotels until the end of the year 2002.
